Notice under Section 179 of the Planning and Development Act 2000 and Part 8 of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 as amended.
Cork City Council proposes to undertake development works as part of Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the City Centre Movement Strategy.
Cork City Centre Movement Strategy Details
Submissions and observations with respect to the proposed development, dealing with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area in which the development would be situated may be made in writing to Edith Roberts, Senior Executive Engineer, Transportation Division, Roads and Transport Directorate, City Hall, Cork on or before 5.00pm on Friday the 5th of June 2015.

Coca-Cola Zero Bikes launches its website for the regional bike-share scheme in Galway, Limerick and Cork. The pre-registration phase of the bike schemes has now commenced.
The website www.bikeshare.ie is now up and running. A discounted rate of €5 for an annual subscription to a city is available until year end.
As part of the pre-registration phases we have fixed the opening dates to take account of the delivery of bikes for three schemes.
The three final opening dates are now:
Galway – Monday 24th November 2014
Limerick – Monday 8th December 2014 and
Cork – Thursday 18th December 2014
Customers are encouraged to sign up and become regular users. The scheme brings many advantages to the cities and to users alike.

REVISED BALLINCOLLIG & CARRIGALINE BUS SERVICES
Route 220/220A: Ballincollig – City Centre – Douglas – Carrigaline – Crosshaven – Fountainstown
As part of an ongoing review of public transport services in Cork City and County undertaken by the National Transport Authority, Bus Eireann will introduce a revised combined Route 220/220A (Cork – Ballincollig) which will no longer operate from this date.
Enhancements to the bus timetable include:
- Direct connections from Carrigaline & Douglas to U.C.C. & C.I.T.
- Direct services from Ballincollig to Carrigaline via Cork City Centre
- Improved frequency of services – 30 min weekday service
- Earlier and later departures to/from Cork City
- Increased weekend frequency
- Standard routing for all services
- Increased level of services to Crosshaven and Fountainstown

Bicycles on InterCity Trains
All InterCity trains have bicycles carriage facilities. Dublin to Cork and Dublin to Belfast trains are located in a storage area separate from the passenger compartment of the train. All other InterCity routes the bicycle spaces are within the passenger compartment. These routes are restricted to two bicycles per service. Bikes can be carried for free on Dublin – Belfast Enterprise services, however, charges apply on all other intercity routes (see table below).
Bicycle Reservations
It is recommended that customers reserve their bicycles spaces online where available in advance of travel. Just select the bicycle option when you are reserving a seat.

Bicycles on Commuter and DART Trains
Bicycles are permitted on Commuter and DART services between 10.00 and 15.30 and after 19.00 Monday to Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday. Customers are asked to stay with their bicycles in the vestibules at all times and ensure they do not allow their bicycles to become a nuisance to other passengers. The carriage of bicycles on Commuter and DART services is at the discretion of station staff. At certain times (e.g. major sporting fixtures/concerts), it may not be possible to permit carriage of bicycles on Commuter and DART services. Bicycles that are folded and covered can be carried on all Commuter and DART services with no time restrictions.
If you are travelling with your bicycle, please note the following:
- Customers should walk with their bicycles when they are in the station. It is not permitted to cycle in stations or on platforms
- Customers should use ramps and lifts rather than stairs within stations to gain access to platforms
- Customers should stay with their bicycles onboard trains
- Unaccompanied children cannot bring bicycles onto trains
- No motorised bicycles are allowed on trains
- Always use available bicycle storage spaces provided
- Never obstruct exits or passageways

Capacity of bikes on Cork – Dublin Intercities: Depends on trainset. The railcar type trains only take 2 bikes, while the longer Mark 4 trainsets (usually the ones in the peak hours) can carry c. 10-15. Information given online when booking a train.

Route 220/220A will replace Route 222 (Cork-Carrigaline-Crosshaven-Fountainstown) & Route 232 (Cork-Ballincollig) which will no longer operate from this date.

PASSENGERS’ LUGGAGE
Folding childrens’ pushchairs will be carried free, subject to accommodation being available and provided they are folded before placing in the luggage compartment or other designated area of the vehicle. Folding bicycles which are packed and wrapped in a suitable carrier bag/protective covering will be treated as passengers’ accompanied luggage and carried free of charge in the luggage storage area. Folding bicycles which are NOT packed or wrapped as described above will be charged at the full cycle rate.
Bicycle, prams and non-folding childrens’ pushchairs will be carried only if sufficient accommodation is available; they must be placed in the luggage compartment or other designated area of the vehicle and are subject to a charge as determined by Bus Eireann from time to time.
